About
At Girls in the Game every girl finds her voice, discovers her strength and leads with confidence through fun and active sports, health and leadership programs. Girls in the Game empowers all girls to be game changers. Since 1995, Girls in the Game, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, has emerged as a leading girls’ health and fitness organization in Chicago. Every year, Girls in the Game empowers more than 3,600 girls to make healthier choices and develop the confidence and leadership skills they need to succeed on and off the field. Girls in the Game’s comprehensive, evidence-based sports, health and leadership programming is designed to meet the needs of the whole girl by addressing her physical, emotional, and mental well- being. Programming is offered year-round and long-term with the goal of continuously engaging girls from childhood through adolescence, preparing them for a healthy, successful adulthood. Age-appropriate programs use sport as a vehicle to teach girls about health and wellness while developing crucial leadership skills necessary for them to succeed now and in the future. Girls in the Game primarily serves minority girls 7 to 18 with low-income backgrounds who often live in neighborhoods plagued with violence and limited opportunities for healthy extracurricular activities. Girls in the Game programming includes After School programs, Game Days, Teen Squad, Sports & Leadership Summer Camp, Summer Squad, and teen programming at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center. Each program offers participants the opportunity to be physically active, learn about healthy lifestyle choices, and improve their leadership skills in a safe, all-girl setting.Relevant People
