Tim Helenthal began his career in the moving and storage industry in 1994, as Manager of the Total Quality Assurance Program (TQAP) for National Forwarding Company, the military division of National Van Lines. In 2000, Tim was promoted to Vice President of Agency Services for Military. Committed to industry improvements, Tim currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the American Moving & Storage Association’s (AMSA) Government Traffic Committee. He served two terms as the Vice-Chairman of the International Association of Movers (IAM), before his election to Chairman in 2017. Tim served on the SDDC Surface Transportation Executive Working Group from 2013-2016.

Tim’s experience with TQAP led him to develop in-company programs that identify and select quality suppliers for household goods relocations. While doing this, he was also responsible for monitoring trends within the DOD Personal Property Program where he interpreted and executed ever-changing government guidelines. Tim oversaw the development of National’s “PREVENT” quality control program that includes the Military Procedures Manual, a DOD-specific training resource for all moving agents and drivers.

Tim serves as the President and COO of National Van Lines, Inc., an employee-owned, Broadview, Illinois-based company. Tim oversees the corporate direction and strategy of National Van Lines, bringing industry expertise together with visionary thinking. Focusing on the development of his leaders, he champions a team of employees dedicated to maintaining the reputation of a trusted company that values their customers.

Tim attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill., where he received a B.A. in Economics in 1990 and an M.A. in Economics in 1991.
