According to IDC, the amount of data in the global datasphere subject to data analysis will grow from 2016 to 2025 by a factor of 50 to 5.2 Zettabytes. During that same time, the portion of analyzed data in ultra-large databases of a Trillion or more active rows will grow from 7% to 70% of analyzed data. However, no current commercial or open source databases can provide the speed at scale needed for this next generation of data analysis requirements. Ocient is a new clustered time series database and machine learning analytics platform that is designed to hold trillions to quadrillions of rows of data, ingress at speeds of tens of billions of rows per second, and filter & compute aggregate results at rates up to trillions of rows per second. This revolutionary speed is obtained by rethinking the entire architecture of the database to take advantage of modern commodity hardware and massively parallel processing on large core count systems. Ocient was designed for data sets beyond the practical size of in-memory databases, and speeds well beyond the capabilities of NoSQL databases or Hadoop.
