FLEx Lighting is a Chicago-based optical technology company that has developed a revolutionary technology for the control and guiding of light in thin films. This technology is currently being implemented as a set of state-of-the-art lighting and illumination products for the consumer electronics industry. Among other applications, these products provide critical lighting solutions for the rapidly expanding category of Reflective LCD displays. As such, they serve as an enabling technology that can leverage and participate in the growth of the multi-billion dollar mobile and wearable electronics market as well as numerous other application areas. These unique, patent-protected technologies and products facilitate, enhance and augment the rising tide of portable and wearable displays. FLEx’s patented technologies involve the ability to efficiently drive light from an LED into a very thin film or sheet of clear plastic, and then cause the light to radiate out of the sheet exactly where and in the direction desired, with great control over brightness, uniformity and color balance. And it does so using off-the-shelf commercial LEDs. As a result of this open architecture, the ongoing explosion of LED innovations and improvements directly and continuously augments FLEx’s lighting solutions, expanding the range of possible applications and providing ever-increasing levels of brightness and color saturation.
