About
SOS Children's Villages Illinois is a nonprofit child welfare agency that serves Illinois' most vulnerable children and families. The model of care employed by SOS Children’s Villages Illinois is part of a 67-year international tradition utilized by over 550 SOS Children’s Villages in 134 countries worldwide. Our model differs from traditional foster care in emphasizing that children: 1. Live together with their siblings 2. Receive care and support from a full-time, professionally-trained Foster Parent 3. Grow up in private, single-family homes 4. Benefit from the support of the Village, designed as an intentional community SOS Children's Villages Illinois opened its eighteen-home Lockport Village in 1993. In 2004, SOS Children's Villages Illinois opened the seventeen-home Chicago Village in Chicago's Auburn-Gresham neighborhood. In 2011, SOS Children's Villages Illinois acquired a short-term residential facility called Casa Tepeyac in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood. In 2014, SOS Children's Villages Illinois opened its newest Village in the Roosevelt Square neighborhood of Chicago with fourteen homes. 2014 KEY OUTCOMES - THE SOS ILLINOIS DIFFERENCE 698 children were served through our programs and services The average age of children living at our Villages is 10, and an average of 5 children live in each home We celebrated a 100% high school graduation rate, compared to the national average of 50% of children in foster care Our foster parents serve an average of 4.5 years, nationally foster parents serve an average of one (1) year Our programs and services are delivered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, which means 2,154,960 hours of care were provided to our children and families SOS Children’s Villages Illinois has maintained a 4-Star Charity Navigator award for seven consecutive years - only 2% of charities in the U.S. hold this distinction.Relevant People
