About

Rita Goldberg founded British Swim School in 1981 and remains the CEO. Goldberg’s methodology has evolved over the last 34 years, teaching water safety survival skills to children as young as three months old. The back float is considered the most important water survival skill, as it enables swimmers to rest, breathe and call for help, alleviating the “silent” danger of floating face down. Drowning is the leading cause of death in children under five. The organization holds more than 7,500 lessons per week and conducted more than 300,000 swimming lessons in 2014. Classes are available for babies, children and adults. British Swim School is ranked in Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500 and is one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s “Top 50 New Franchises.” British Swim School is also aligned with the Safer3 Water Safety Foundation, whose mission is to “protect every life from drowning through education and heightened water safety awareness”. About Rita Goldberg, Founder and CEO. Before opening British Swim School locations in the United States, Rita was a national swimmer and dedicated swim instructor in Britain. In 1981, after working in the education system for many years, Rita opened her own private swim school in the basement of a Victorian house in Manchester, England. It was there that she began to develop the unique teaching methods that have become a recognized trademark of British Swim School. Rita Goldberg is an active member of the U.S. Swim School Association and served as a board member for three years. She is also a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO).
