About

First Ascent, a budding Chicago-based climbing company, plans to open an indoor bouldering gym on the second floor of the 100-year-old building at 4718 N. Broadway, bringing a burgeoning fitness trend to a neighborhood striving to position itself as an entertainment district. Bouldering is like rock climbing, except no ropes are used, so the climbing walls tend to be shorter and the experience more social, as groups gather to help the climber chart a path.
