 I am Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Humanities at North Park University in Chicago where I also served as Acting Provost in fall 2017. In addition, I am President of the Austrian Studies Association (2018-2021), a member organization of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). From 2003 until 2016, I was Professor of German and Linguists at Gordon College in Massachusetts, where I received the Distinguished Junior Faculty Award in 2006. From 2006 until 2012, I was Chair of the Department of Languages and Linguistics. I am an elected member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, PEN American Center, and PEN Austria. I am also an elected Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (RHS), the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and am co-founder of the RSA's Future of Learning Network. In addition, I am an appointed Leadership Fellow of the Society of Leadership Fellows at St. George's House, Windsor Castle. I serve on the Board of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) and the American Conference of Academic Deans (ACAD). From 2017 to 2019, I was Chair of the Board of Directors of the Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area (ACCA). I am also a Peer Reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission. I serve on the editorial boards of The Journal of Austrian Studies (University of Nebraska Press), Delos: A Journal of Translation and World Literature (University Press of Florida), and The ACAD Leader (American Conference of Academic Deans). I have written on literature, language, history, religion, culture, politics, and higher education. My latest book publication is The Hermeneutics of Hell: Visions and Representations of the Devil in World Literature (Palgrave, 2017). I am currently coediting the Routledge Handbook of Christianity and Culture and a volume on the writer Thomas Bernhard (1931-1989), due out with Bloomsbury in spring 2020.
